In keeping with our commitment to ensuring that Members are informed on progress and the decisions made at Committee, our President has recorded this update, sharing information on the outcome of recent meetings and plans for the future, including our St Patrick's activities.

We hope to see you at the Club's St Patrick's Family Day on 13th March at the RMIT Courtyard in the city, or on the 17th, St Patrick's Day itself, where there will be a great day of celebration at The Limerick Arms.

A GREAT NEW WAY TO CELEBRATE ST PATRICK'S DAY!

A new event for 2022, come and celebrate your Irishness (even if it's just for the day!) with all the family at this free event in the heart of the city, beside Old Melbourne Gaol.

There'll be music, song, dance, food and drinks. Lots of seating to sit down and relax, catch up with friends, and there's lots of free activities for the kids as well.

Have a go at the ancient Irish sport of Hurling, some Gaelic Football, join in with the music, marvel at our "Riverdancers", or find out more about our social and cultural activities over a refreshment.

Where to see great Irish Films, want to chat Irish Literature, how can you learn the Irish Language? We will be happy to show you all this and more.

Dear Members, I wanted to check in with you all a

Dear Members,

I wanted to check in with you all and share some updates on the work being done to prepare our incoming Committee of Management for their taking office following the AGM next month, alongside some news on Club activities.

As you may recall, we had some great cultural activities planned for August and September, such as our music sessions, our next literature event and our Irish Film event, which had to be postponed through lockdown. We look forward to rescheduling these in the weeks ahead, as we hope to be able to gather once again to celebrate our precious Irish Australian culture.

In the meantime, I wish you and your loved ones well and look forward to seeing you again in person very soon.

The Celtic Club was successful in securing a grant

The Celtic Club was successful in securing a grant under the Emigrant Support Programme to restore the Club’s founders' picture and create a digital copy and a smaller print copy.

This magnificent and invaluable collage painting is a historical document featuring the Club’s initial purpose in supporting Home Rule, showing who were our founding fathers and early presidents including such notable characters as Dr. Michael O’Sullivan and Morgan Jaguers. Various iconic Irish and Australian emblems are included in the picture.

The picture required a degree of restoration as well as a protective glass cover. The delicate and damaged frame needed major restoration.

To safeguard against any future damage/deterioration a digital copy has been made of the restored painting.

The project preserved one of the Club’s most historical artefacts which through the generations was and will be treasured by its members, visitors and friends that visit the Club, and will strengthen the links between Ireland and the Global Irish.

Under the grant, the Club paid half of the costs of the project.

The Camino Voyage Film // The @irishfilmfestau featured this outstanding Irish Film, which has scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It features Danny Sheehy and Glen Hansard among others. A crew including a writer, two musicians, an artist and a stonemason embark on the Camino by sea, in a curragh they built themselves. They chart an inspiring and dangerous 2,500km Celtic odyssey from Ireland to Northern Spain.
